All proceeds benefit the Mandan Firefighters by funding fitness equipment and advanced training opportunities with leaders from across the United States.

Race description
The race kicks off at the Mandan Firefighters Training Grounds (Mandan Firefighters Training Grounds — 629 24th Ave. SE, Mandan, ND 58554) and winds through the Lakewood area of Mandan on June 6, 2026 at 9:00 AM.
Events include a family-friendly 5K (walkers, dogs, and strollers welcome), a competitive 5K and 10K, and a kids’ half-mile race for ages 10 and under.
Supporting firefighter fitness and training strengthens physical performance and mental resilience — helping crews manage stress, build confidence, and stay ready for the work that matters most.
Family activities & spectator fun
The starting area will feature a Kids Fire Safety Fun Zone with hands-on activities and education for children. Families and spectators are encouraged to cheer on racers and enjoy the community atmosphere throughout the event.

What’s included with registration
Competitive races (5K & 10K): Swag bag, event T-shirt (pre-registration recommended), finisher medal, race bib, professionally timed by Pickle Events.

Family Fun 5K: 1 swag bag per group. 1 event tee per registered participant. $5 discount for each registered person in the group.
Awards
Awards will be given to the 1st place finisher in each age group, for both male and female divisions in the competitive races.
Competitive age groups: 19 & under | 20–29 | 30–39 | 40–49 | 50–59 | 60 & over
Kids 1/2-mile age groups: 5 & under | 6–10 years
Donation & mission
Through the Smoke Road Race advances physical fitness, mental resilience, operational readiness, and professional development within the fire service.
Proceeds upgrade fitness equipment and expand opportunities for firefighters to attend accredited training programs. Access to proper resources and high-quality training supports long-term health, stress management, and performance on and off the job.
The community is invited to support by participating in the family-friendly 5K, the competitive 5K or 10K, the children’s half-mile run, or by making a charitable contribution in support of firefighter fitness, training, and overall well-being.
